Gutting Mary
Some Long Overdue Improvements
This week’s video marks my return to van building, or should I say van improving. Now that I’ve got a workshop, it seemed like the ideal time to catch up on some jobs I’ve wanted to do on Mary.

Since I always seem to bite off more than I can chew, you won’t be surprised to see me gut the inside of Mary. Rather than tackling one small job at a time, I decided to do everything at once.
Regular viewers will be familiar with my normal approach to DIY van building and this week’s video won’t be a shocker. I keep learning the right way to do things, usually by doing them wrong to begin with.
There are plenty of the usual mishaps and expletives, and there are a few moments when I wonder whether I’m making a huge mistake. It’s normal for anyone trying to build a van they can call home.
What I love about creating videos like these is that they show that anyone can get into vanlife. You don’t have to be a DIY genius; you just have to persevere.
With hindsight, I’d have done things differently, but then you wouldn’t see the reality of van building. I know many channels show the perfect way to do things, but I prefer to share my genuine journey with you.
I think that’s what makes living with Mary so enjoyable. She teaches me so much, not just about van builds but also about myself.
The journey is as much about how you grow as a person as it is about where you travel to. So join me today at the usual time of 6 pm to see what disasters await in the next chapter of Mary’s upgrades.
