Cooking Chaos
This one was a bit of a faff
This week’s video shows me trying my hand at living and cooking in an imported Japanese camper van that proved somewhat of a challenge when it came to cooking.
In keeping with the whole Japanese theme, I decided to try my hand at making a traditional Japanese meal, Katsu curry. In hindsight, that probably wasn’t the best idea.
I should have realised when I was shopping for the ingredients that this would be a challenge. I think one of the problems when I’m trying out other people’s vans, is that I keep forgetting I won’t be cooking in Mary.
What made it difficult were the cramped conditions and small work surfaces, but they were also the benefits of this little setup. With the camper's low roof and compact size, it meant driving down country lanes was much less stressful.
The van owners told me they camp in it almost every weekend, and I could see why. It’s such an easy-to-drive van that you feel like you can go almost anywhere.
We decided to park up in a wooded area to enjoy the tranquility of nature, and it seemed like the natural setting for this video. It was also lucky that no one was around to hear me swearing as things got progressively harder as I started to prepare the curry.
I’m sure you’ll enjoy this week’s video both for the experience of seeing a more stripped-back camper setup and watching me struggle not to cock things up. Thanks again for all of the positive feedback on the videos so far. It’s amazing to see.
